Attendance
At EKC Sheppey Secondary, we know that consistent secondary school attendance is critically important and directly linked to academic achievement. Research from the Department for Education consistently demonstrates that higher attendance correlates with significantly better outcomes in key assessments like GCSEs. For instance, pupils with 95-100% attendance are nearly twice as likely to achieve a Grade 5 or above in English and Maths GCSEs compared to those attending 90-95% of the time, highlighting that even missing a mere 10 days in Year 11 can drastically reduce the likelihood of success.
Beyond grades, regular attendance fosters crucial social and emotional skills, instils discipline, and builds the foundational knowledge and routines necessary for future employment and overall life chances, making it a non-negotiable factor in a child's educational and life trajectory.
