January Lorman, Headteacher

January is a passionate educator who has been working with the Swale Community for 15 years.  Originally from Faversham, she attended a local non-selective school, before studying English and History BA at Canterbury Christchurch University. She began her teaching career as an English teacher in Sittingbourne and was a key member of the team driving standards at two Sittingbourne Secondary Schools. During her time in Sittingbourne, she grew concerned about the amount of students travelling off the Island to be educated, and from that moment, made it her mission to work towards reducing that number because she firmly believes that all young people have the right to have access to a high quality education in walking distance from their home. January achieved a Masters in Transformational Leadership in Education in 2019 and was awarded the National Professional Qualification for Headship in 2023.

January has a proven track record for success with Swale students and was an integral part of her last school’s regeneration and instrumental in their achievement of a grade ‘Good’ at Ofsted in the last three inspections. January is known by her colleagues as a leader who never gives up, gets stuck in, and develops excellent relationships with both her colleagues and the families of the young people in her care.
